FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does a podiatrist do?

  • Podiatrists treat and advise on lower limb and foot musculoskeletal conditions on the Sunshine Coast. SCOAP offer a full range of podiatry services to care for all patients. This includes things like gait analysis, biomechanical & footwear assessments, orthotics, children’s podiatry and the treatment of sports injuries.

Can a podiatrist help with a muscle or sports injury?

  • Podiatry is a diverse practice, so we’ll be able to help with many conditions. If you have an ongoing musculoskeletal problem in the foot, ankle or lower leg, and live near the Sunshine Coast, please get in touch. Dean has a wealth of experience treating athletes from many different sports, including people undertaking recreational exercises. If you have an injury in your lower limb, call SCOAP today.

Can I see a podiatrist without a referral?

  • It is not necessary to have a referral to see a podiatrist. A referral is often how patients first learn of the treatments offered by podiatry, but it is a misconception that you need one to see us. We have many patients who come straight to us without consulting another medical professional first and we’re happy to see anyone with a lower limb complaint. For general podiatric assessment, you can also call us to set a specific schedule.

Do I need to see a podiatrist regularly?

  • This depends on your needs. Footwear related issues are often fixed in a short time, but more chronic problems relating to genetics, sports or lifestyle can require ongoing care. We can advise on whether your problem will be fixed quickly or require a longer treatment plan.

Could any of the costs be covered by my health fund?

  • If you are within the highest bracket of a health fund, it should offer coverage. Health funds differ in the level of cover they offer and what is included in their policies so check with your health fund to ascertain whether you are covered.

Are you able to offer home visits?

  • Unfortunately, this is not something we offer at this time. We welcome patients from the Sunshine Coast region into our podiatrist clinic but home visits are not something we can do.

What should I bring for my first appointment?

  • If you have any paperwork like written referrals or related investigations (x-rays, MRI, ultrasound and associated reports) please bring them along. If you are coming for an assessment, bring along the footwear you wear on a regular basis and please wear shorts or loose trousers to make the assessment easier.
